Location excellent parking good prices charged are all higher than in printed menu Afternoon tea charged 50 when 40 was on original reservation one particular member of bar staff was unprofessional in the response to my query all in all poor service breakfast was less than average although lots of choice as reviews indicated this would be a pleasant stay but turned out very different in our experience & would recommend looking elsewhere

Spent second Twixmas break here, came home today after 3 nights. Lovely hotel, really friendly and helpful staff, nothing is too much trouble. Comfy bedroom, nice sitting and bar areas. Excellent food, menu choice.

Such a lovely cosy pub, we had a meal in the lounge. My husband and I both had fish and chips which was a huge potion and very tasty! Would highly recommend - we were only in the area for the weekend otherwise we would definitely have returned!

Spent a lovely afternoon sitting in this place. A warm friendly atmosphere and a wonderful country hotel in an area famous for the filming the series Heartbeat

Without doubt one of the worst overnight stays i have ever experienced . Booked a winter escape offer which included dinner. Upon arrival was informed restaurant fully booked and could only eat in the bar or residents lounge . Not happy opted for the latter as tiny bar not very comfortable. Also told could not eat at 8pm it had to be 7.45pm. We had a pre dinner drink in the bar and proceeded to the residents lounge as requested. Not a problem finding a table as we were the only ones in it ! No table was set and no one came to see us . Had to go and get help and eventually the table was set up and it was pretty obvious we would be eating alone in dingy surroundings totally avoid of any atmosphere. . Service thereafter was dire and the food little better. No one came to clear the table and we were not even offered a sweet. Complained to reception and again in the morning and was thanked for bringing the matter up . The restaurant was full due to the owners and guests eating that night !! I HOPE THIS 100% GENUINE AND HONEST REVIEW helps you decide where not to stay

We came for lunch here after looking at the waterfall and we were left feeling really unsatisfied in both customer service, value for money and quality of food. We ordered an americano for the extortionate price of £4 to pass the time until we were able to order at midday. We ordered some sandwiches at 12:05 and a children’s risotto (which initially sounded great - it was mushroom). 40 minutes later the food came out - it wasn’t even busy and as one of the waiting staff said upon bringing our food out, the ticket machine wasn’t turned on in the kitchen so they didn’t get our order. No-one came to apologise during our wait. So when our food finally did come out, the £9 sandwich was on the thinnest bread (menu said granary bloomer) with a small portion of crisps and coleslaw…honestly, we’ve never felt so disappointed or dissatisfied in the value of food as this place. The mushroom risotto looked great with all sorts of different mushrooms in, but as it was cooked in white wine and I didn’t think it was really suitable to be on the children’s menu and tasted bitter. I hope you review your kitchen practises and improve the quality, quantity and price of the portions because this was the worst lunch we’ve had in Yorkshire! Sorry! - Family of 4 (7 year old, 13 year old and 2 adults)

We had a Sunday roast here and it was very good! Tasty veg meat cooked to perfection and excellent Yorkshire pudding We had a great walk after too down to Mallyan falls It’s a good walk down hill and then a bit of a climb over rocks (managed with two dogs and a 3 year old) spectacular water fall well worth it

Myself and a number of family and friends attended the hotel for the purpose of my son’s wedding on 19th October. I personally stayed there for two nights in total. On first entering the hotel the day before the wedding I very quickly became aware of the fact that this was going to be a good choice of venue. The staff were happy and smiling very polite and extremely helpful. Whilst having a drink in the bar I encountered Gav who is the Bar Manager, a great guy who spent quite a lot of time chatting to me and immediately instilled great confidence that I was dealing with professionals. I also met Kelsie who was a member of the bar staff, a very friendly happy young lady with a great sense of humour and a cheeky smile. Eleanor the wedding co-ordinator is without doubt a “ one off “. If you want a wedding carried out to an extraordinary high standard by the ultimate professional then look no further. I had few laughs with her and nothing was too much trouble. Other members of staff I encountered were Sarah, Grace, Maddie, Georgia and Claire, they were all happy smiling and very approachable and genuinely nice people. I need to mention Joe the General Manager, an extremely pleasant young man with an obvious talent in the hospitality industry. Although my dealings with him were somewhat limited I knew that should I need him he is very approachable and operates a sort of open door policy which is very reassuring. The food, as a guest is top notch and for a wedding party was of a mega high standard and the accommodation is outstanding The wedding was a great success thanks to the staff and I thank them all for going the extra mile to make it a mega enjoyable experience

Edit: there is an incredible beer garden out back. You can eat food in it. The food and service is great. I was wrong to give three stars. Original: £2.70 for a lime soda. Ouch. A pretty unhelpful bartender told us we couldn't order to food to eat outside, but then as we drank our overpriced lime sodas in the garden we saw a pretty big group arrive, sit outside, and order food which was promptly delivered to their table. Outside. I will confess, however, that the adjoining café bit did a really good tuna panini, which I WAS able to eat outside, and the mars bar rice crispy cake was amazing. All in all, quite a conflicted experience.

Wonderful Family Meal with Great Service! Our family had a fantastic meal at The Mallyan during our recent visit, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The menu had a great selection, and there was something for everyone, even I managed to find something tasty which is unusual as I'm a very fussy eater. The food was delicious—perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Well done to the staff for making our meal so enjoyable, and being patient with our large family especially the children. We all had a lovely evening and will be definitely recommend you to family and friends and we will definitely be returning for another wonderful evening.
